Academic Exchange with the Xinjiang Meteorological Information Center
On May 19, 2024, at the invitation of Director Pu Zhang of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Meteorological Information Center and Professor Yan Liu of the Institute of Desert Meteorology, the team traveled to Urumqi for an academic exchange.
Professor Hongyi Li gave a detailed presentation on the development and application of hydrological models for alpine cold regions, covering model principles, technical advantages, and applications. Drawing on existing results, he demonstrated the model’s advantages in flood-peak prediction and snow depth simulation. He noted that the model can better assess ecological water availability in cold regions and provide important support for climate forecasting and water resources management. The Xinjiang Meteorological Information Center team presented representative achievements in data management and application development. Director Pu Zhang pointed out that Xinjiang faces severe water shortages and uneven precipitation, presenting major challenges for water resources management and environmental conservation. Building on both teams’ achievements could improve the accuracy and timeliness of selected meteorological products. Participants held an active discussion of these topics.
