Annual Snow and Ice Survey of Hexi Inland Rivers Completed

From November 25 to December 1, 2025, supported by a key project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China’s Regional Joint Fund, the research team carried out its annual field observations in the Yeniugou, Babao River, and Binggou catchments of the Qilian Mountains. Under the team’s guidance, Yaru Yang, Rui He, Zixiang Li, Haiyang Su, and other members conducted the field campaign.

Addressing hydrological research needs in alpine mountains, the campaign systematically measured snow and river-ice properties, collected surface reflectance spectra, sampled soil, snow, and ice, and observed runoff. Despite high elevations, low temperatures, and other difficult conditions, the team established multiple observation locations and collected key measurements of snow and river-ice properties, spectral characteristics of representative surface types, soil samples, and river discharge. These firsthand data will provide important support for research on snow and ice water resources in the inland river basins of the Hexi Corridor.
